ATLANTA LEGEND PASSES:DJ UNK

Celebrity News Alert........

Atlanta GA, legend DJ Unk has passed away

Born in 1981 in Atlanta, Georgia, Anthony Platt discovered his passion for music and DJing during his teenage years. He quickly formed a creative partnership with DJ Jelly and DJ Montay, culminating in the formation of the Southern Style DJs, a collective that would contribute significantly to the regional hip-hop scene. In 2000, he signed with Big Oomp Records, marking a pivotal moment in his career that would set the stage for his later breakthroughs.

Unk burst onto the mainstream scene with the release of his debut album, *Beat'n Down Yo Block*, which hit the shelves in 2006 under Koch Records. This album encapsulated the vibrant Southern hip-hop sound of the era, particularly highlighted by the runaway hit "Walk It Out." The track achieved remarkable success, reaching No. 2 on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop charts and climbing to No. 10 on the all-encompassing Hot 100 chart, signaling his arrival as a force in the industry. The song's popularity was further enhanced by a notable remix featuring hip-hop luminaries AndrĂ© 3000 and Jim Jones, adding to its appeal and cultural significance.

Another standout from the same album, "2 Step," also made waves in the music charts, peaking at No. 9 on the R&B/Hip-Hop charts and No. 24 on the Hot 100. This track, with its infectious beat and engaging rhythm, spawned a remix featuring a lineup of popular artists, including T-Pain, E40, and Jim Jones, further solidifying Unk's reputation as a hitmaker.

In the following years, Unk continued to evolve as an artist, releasing his sophomore album, *2econd Season*, in 2008. This project featured collaborations with notable artists such as Sean Kingston, Ray J, Three 6 Mafia, and the Ying Yang Twins, showcasing his ability to work across genres and styles. Additionally, in 2009, Unk released three mixtapes: *Itsago The Mixtape Vol.1*, *Smoke On*, and *ATL Off Da Chain*, further establishing his relevance in the hip-hop community.

In 2009, DJ Unk faced a significant health crisis when he suffered a heart attack, an experience that profoundly affected his life and career. In an honest interview with XXL magazine in 2010, he opened up about the incident, revealing, "It comes from not exercising, from not eating right. Basically, man, I work hard every day. Everything I do every day I try to make something happen in my household. I constantly be on the go. I constantly be on airplanes, in different weather, and, you know, it just took a toll on me. It was stress."

Despite this setback, DJ Unk’s legacy as a vibrant, influential artist resonates within the hip-hop community. His energetic performances and catchy tracks provided the soundtrack to many lives, and his contributions to the genre will continue to inspire countless fans and aspiring musicians for years to come.
