CORNELIUS SMITH ADMITS BIG JOOK PAID HIM TO KILL YOUNG DOLPH

CORNELIUS SMITH CONFESS

A Memphis man testified that he and another person shot and killed rapper Young Dolph after the brother of rapper Yo Gotti put a hit on him. Cornelius Smith and Justin Johnson were identified as the two people seen on surveillance video exiting a white Mercedes outside a Memphis, Tennessee, cookie store shortly after Young Dolph entered the store and then opening fire in broad daylight on November 17, 2021.

Smith was testifying in the trial of Johnson, who is facing charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and being a felon in possession of a gun. Smith also faces murder and conspiracy charges.

During the trial, Johnson’s attorney claimed that Smith's testimony should not be trusted, as Smith was attempting to save himself and that Johnson is innocent. The attorney argued that wearing similar clothes to the person in the video does not prove Johnson's guilt.

It was noted that Young Dolph, whose real name was Adolph Thornton Jr, had survived previous shootings and had declined an offer to work with a rival record label, which led to tensions and diss tracks being directed at the label and its artists.

Smith, who admitted to being shot by Young Dolph’s brother as he fled the cookie store shooting, testified that he received only $800 before his arrest. He mentioned that his son had passed away a few months earlier, leading him to become reckless and indifferent. He admitted that he felt no remorse at the time of the shooting and was solely focused on making money.

Another individual, Jermarcus Johnson, pleaded guilty to serving as an accessory after the killing. He confessed to helping the two shooting suspects communicate while they were on the run from authorities.

Young Dolph, known for his music and collaborations with other artists, had three albums reach the top 10 on the Billboard 200, with his 2020 album "Rich Slave" peaking at No. 4.
